One more thing:

There are 2 types of VMS customers. Those who are fairly active and if
VMS doesn't have the latest and greatest features, will be forced to
migrate to another plarform, and those who are stuck on VMS because they
need specific features already in VMS and can't migrate to other platforms.

In the first case, the lack of IPsec and new features will make it
easier for HP to convince them to go to another OS to get the modern
features they want.

In the second case, HP will argue that those customers are stuck on VMS
with very stable software and don't need new features, and in fact,
don't need new versions (like it did for VAX customers).

So, the quicker they can get rid of the active customers, the quicker
they will be left with jusrt the legacy customers who don't need new
versions. AKA: the quicler they can formally end development of VMS,
after which they just rake in support revenus without having to pay for
continued development.
