My primary home system until early this year was a PWS600au running
VMS V8.2, latest Mozilla, and DECwrite. I had to sideline it because
of some family and work sites that required Flash, so now I have a Mac
G4 connected to the big monitor with a switcher, but don't use the PWS
too often any more.
The PWS600au has the large cache and 1 GB RAM. It runs most things
fine but started to get a bit leisurely, and some websites would lock
up Mozilla like a brick (spinning at 100% CPU) for hours.
I'm cruising for a _cheap_ faster multi-slot Alpha (DS10 600, DS15,
DS25... no way I can run an itanic, as noisy as they are, in the space
I have) and will keep a VMS box on the desk as the home baseline
system (mail store, etc; I only use webmail from the Mac). I've got
the SCSI cards, disks, and a nice video card ready when I find one.
However I don't need or want MS Office capability at home. Anyone
outside of work who sends me one gets DECwrite attachments back, along
with a 'sorry I can't read that proprietary file format you sent' ;)
