I have looked at my old MVII modparams. The "interconnect" is set to NI
and not NICI. (I think that I got the NICI when moving to a DSSI based VAX).
I am not sure what AUTOGEN does with the INTERCONNECT parameter. But it
doesn't appear to be in SYSGEN or in VAXVMSSYS.PAR file.
You can create a standalone backup bootable disk. For instance, you can
create a bootable disk where the SYS0 directory contains a minimalist
VMS with the standalone backup image.

MDM would expect the files be on the tape in the right order. I had once
created a kit containing those files and a readme file with the order in
which they should be placed. But someone mentioned that they had never
been able to make it work.
