The VAXstation 2000 had a "limited" SCSI interface for its TK50 drive.
And it ran 4.7, so that proves my memory is going...
I have a manual somewhere whichs discusses SCSI devices in combination
with VMS V5.3. Hence the thought that SCSI
was new to VMS at around that VMS version. Could be that the manual
discusses third party SCSI devices, though.
