As someone else said, if you need a feature that is on Unix but not on
VMS, you know where to go.

Unix compatibility would have been nice, especially since it would have
allowed the VMS community to continue to make things available on VMS
after VMS development has been wound down.

But there would need to be a final big push to bring VMS up to speed and
make it easy to keep up to date by volunteers (recent X-windows version,
make VMS' intricacies officially part of GTK source so that it is easier
to recompile new versions of GTK to VMS)
 etc etc etc etc.

I still recall the post from a VMS engineer explaining what was involved
in compiling Mozilla on VMS. You need a gazillion tools to do that.
