Is your PC beefy enough to run VMWare? If so, consider running SIMH on
Linux,
in fact I've got a prebuilt VM appliance for exactly this purpose.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I decided to try again and this time I have 
successfully installed winpcap on my machine, so SIMH is networking just 
fine now.
