I think the others have addresses your main query. 

Remember that an "ethernet hub" is nothing more than a piece of ethernet
infrastructure and is protocol-agnostic.

If your HP 8150 has serial interface in addition to the NIC, you can
connect it directly to your VAX and set it up as a serial printer.
