When I first arrived at UofAlberta in 1974, someone had put up a note a
chalkboard that "TOY 0K0 is Xxxxx, Alberta". I no longer remember the
town, unfortunatly. By the time I possesed a Postal Code directory in
1978, T0K 0Y0 was not listed.
Mildly amusing recollection: When postal codes were introduced Canada-
wide (after some trials in western provinces) ca. 1973, there we stories
of some business in Toronto or Montreal (in the usual eastern-centric
view of the country) that wasn't getting it's mail because their code
was mis-read as "Tokyo". One version even made CBC National News.
Showed complete failure to grasp the system, of course: "T" is Alberta
and "TO" is rural Alberta.
