In my experience, the realisation that I deleted something I shouldn't
have happened before the delete command ended so it is fairly easy to
quiesce the system and run the undelete (or DFU which can do that too)
to recover the files.

There is also the DIX utility that lest you parse indexf.sys and help
you recover portions of file that that was partially overwritten.
