I think it has been demonstrated in the industry that Unix and Windows
can do those things. Some things maybe not quite as well. But apparently
well enough to that it is not considered a problem.

Practically nothing.

Linux is doing the same to the commercial Unixes as the commercial
Unixes did to VMS (and other non-Unix OS'es) 15-20 years ago.
