I know people here don't want to hear this but the way I make PDF's is
to just print them (to a PDF is and available option) using the KDE
desktop installed on either a Linux box or a BSD box.  You could always
install Virtual Box on a PC and run it there if you didn't have or want
to devote a box to Unix.
