   Microsoft has managed to make fewer promises to unions.  A big part
   of automaker's financial problem was contracting excellent retirement
   benefits to union workers when they were operating well in the black.
   Now they can't readily walk away from those commitments.

   Which is good if you're a UAW retiree and planned on having those
   benefits.  If you work for MS (and a lot of other companies) you may 
   need to look out for your own retirement.
