Actually, mine was stripped down from something I wrote many
years ago for the Amiga and ran on VMS as well: a control
character eliminator, useful for turning capture files from
long Compuserve (or DECUServe) sessions into something you
could actually print.

The stripped down version had sat for many years in my VMS
login directory with intentionally bad syntax at the top and
a comment that it was under edit. Apparently I wanted to make
a version that avoided single character read operations. But
the original getc()/putc() loop was adequate for this test.
