Try sending a an ascii SI charaacter to your screen:
                 oct      hex    dec    
                 017      OF     15
But be sure you have a way of sending an SO afterwards:
                 oct      hex    dec    
                 016      OE     14

I actually have files containing those characters just in case.  :-)
