Answering my own question: in fact there is a possibility, but not a 
trivial one with supported DCL tools.
One could have a look into the parent processes DCL recall buffer to see 
if the last command was a plain SPAWN without arguments.
To see another processes recall buffer can only be done with a CMKRNL 
program. I don't have one ready, but I remember examples on one of the 
freeware CDs.
