   I suspect at the driver level, it's fairly hard to hide real
   interrupts vs. software simulated interrupts.

   They are not, after all, running SIMH, they are running VMS on top
   of HP-UX.  The VMS kernel therefor has no real access to hardware,
   real or simulated.
