In computer school, we used to see a message stating a "bad word" or
missing period caused the compiler to lose its place.

Deliberately avoiding bad words such as profanities, obscenities, etc.
didn't really help and denied students an outlet for their frustrations.

So, to avoid missing periods we had to be very good about practicing
contraception. (Practice anything long enough you're bound to get good
at it! ...though perhaps a few missteps along the way...)
