[Info-vax] calloc fails with access violation

I was wondering about the sizeof(char) too.  The only thing I can come
up with is that in the event of Unicode character sets you wouldn't
want to assume char = 1 byte.

Then again, I haven't done any work with Unicode character sets (that
I can remember) so maybe I'm way off target.
