Most of the VAX to Alpha conversion was pretty easy. I'm sure that
there were a few people who had problems but for most of us, it was
recompile, link, and go. Sometimes it was compile, fix the errors,
recompile, . . . .
I took the opportunity to do a little cleaning up. Some of that old
code had variables that were never used for anything! There were return
codes never checked for success or failure. . . . The sins of thirty
years exposed to the pitiless light of day!
