[Info-vax] OT: DEClaser 5100 printer, ways to connect without Appletalk

Just an update. I have done some testing prior to downgrading my Macs to
the new Snow Leopard (10.6).

DECLaser 5100 works with:

LDP, with the LPD queue name PORT1
HP Jetdirect. You specify the IP as 10.0.0.30:100001




(thanks to Paul Anderson for the PORT1, and to Hoff on the pointer to
the utility to do a port scan).


The "jetdirect" seems to be just raw IP/TCP transfers. And they are batch.

Doing a :

100 100 moveto
(Hello World) show
showpage

yields nothing until you end the connection at which point the page
prints. a "(Hello Terminal) print flush" didn't respond with the "Hello
Terminal" that it was supposed. So it appears to not support
bi-directional communications. LPD of course is the same (but it is by
design).
