The new processors, which Intel calls a "single-chip cloud computer,"
won't necessarily be for production. Instead, Intel said that it would
share 100 of the experimental chips with academic researchers to help
develop new software programming models.

Not sure if this technology will ever make it into Itanium, but lack
of Itanium updates makes me think Intel is treating Itanium like a
"red headed step child". I hope an HP skunk-works is looking into
OpenVMS porting alternatives.
