Must the backup be /IMAGE ?
Do you have sufficient disk space on the vx to create a partil saveset ?
backup the first half of the disk to a disk save set. Then use decnet to
copy that saveset to te ia64 box where you can zip it, and zip t good.
you can then delete teh saveset and backup the second half of the drive.
Another option is to use those PCs.
Get yourself a copy of SIMH, and boot an instance of VMS on the PC.
Cluster it with the vax. Create a large ODS2 disk on the PC, and that
device becomes available on your real vax as a target for the backup.
Considering that VAX VMS is no longer developped and that HP broke ts
promise to products a 8.* version of VAX VMS whoch would have given you
the BACKUP functionality you need, I wouldn'T feel so bad about using
hobbyist licence at this point since it would be just to make backups.
(since you mentioned your budget was $0)
