Looks like Sylvain stepped through a dorrway to a slightly different

If HP had upheld its plan of record to produce an 8.* version of VAX
VMS, you would have had BACKUP/COMPRESS.

If you have a PC with 2 ethernet ports, then SIMH (or Charon VAX) would
be your answer. YOu could boot it in a cluster with the real VAX and let
the real vax backup to the PC because the real VAX would see MSCP served
disks as being local.
