In the late '80s, there was a licensed tool called 'VCL DOS' sold by
Boston Business Computing. Haha, the joke's on me. My copy is on a 5"
floppy. Oh, seems like I have a 3 1/2" version, too. It emulates many
common DCL commands and CTRL strokes. And yes, it is limited to 8+3
file names.

Hello Folks, my best wishes for the new year.
And a question :-)
is there around a DCL like tool to "work" under DOS for Windows XP?
I need to do some text retrieval and the FIND command seems to be a
bit weak.
Thanks.
