Yes, if I wanted something which "is based on OpenSSL 0.9.7e
and includes all of the latest security updates from
OpenSSL.org", where the definition of "latest" is a bit too
vague to be useful. ("September 1, 2006"?)

http://www.openssl.org/

where it now says:

07-Jan-2009: OpenSSL 0.9.8j is now available, including
important bug fixes

Geez. I'm already behind.

Specifically:

http://www.openssl.org/source/

I got the 0.9.8i kit. It has VMS-specific builders, but
they're old and tired, and have too many tests for Alpha, and
not enough for non-VAX. Some other odd stuff, too, like:

%DCL-W-UNDSYM, undefined symbol - check validity and spelling
 \APP_FILES\
%DCL-W-UNDSYM, undefined symbol - check validity and spelling
 \APP_FILES\

(apparently because someone sucked the definition of APP_FILES
out of [.apps]makeapps.com between 0.9.7% and 0.9.8%, but I
haven't looked into it enough yet to figure out why.)

And a couple of %CC-W-LONGEXTERN complaints which were easy
enough to solve in the builder (makevms.com) which generates
the VMS-specific config.h-like file
([.include.openssl]opensslconf.h).

This stuff is version zero-point-something. It changes.
It's nice that HP supplies something, but if it gets updated
only every few years, and the VMS-specific changes don't get
propagated back to the project maintainers, then the situation
might be seen as sub-ideal.

But I'm a known whiner. (And a non-paying one, at that.)
