In general, I'd expect you to have to reboot. Whilst I haven't used
the HP ACUXE, the method of configuring drives on these cards is to
use the on-board configuraiton program. This is prompted when the
system initializes or boots with a "Press F8 to configure".
You should be aware that the SmartArray 5300 that is qualified against
AlphaServers and VMS is very specific as being the SmartArray 5300A.
There is a SmartArray 5300 but this is a ProLiant card, NOT an Alpha
one. Most times you may get away with the cheaper ProLiant card in an
Alpha but if there are any issues then HP will walk away as it's not
the correct card variety.
Firmware on drives and on the card are critical too. If you have an
old version of firmware on the drive or on the card then you may get
ghost error indications. Just because you've only just bought the
card doesn't mean that the firmware's new either.
