Severstal still uses some DECstation Ultrix and Alphaserver 2100's,
1000A's with OpenVMS.
California Steel uses Alphaserver 2100's and DS20E's. Varies from site
to site. Some mills
are converting to Integrity servers. Hyundai has bought into Integrity
on a very large scale.
The steel mill business has no room for excuses when it comes to
production planning,
process control/monitoring..
Final note: I went to a Severstal plant in Ohio and found several
MicroVAX 3300's.
I thought the machines were retired but was told in no uncertain terms
they were not available
for my collection as these machines provide caster strand breakout
detection. I remember
when these machines and their applications were commissioned in 1990.
