Linux is not "a mainstream product from a commercial entity" but they do
a very good job of tooting, too.  That's my point.  It is not some kind
of technical superiority that decides who is the powerhouse in the market.
It is the squeeky wheel.  VMS was "a mainstream product from a commercial
entity".  Heard much tooting lately?  "But", you say, "VMS is not really
a mainstream product even if it comes from a commercial entity."  Well,
maybe if they had tooted their horn a bit more they still would be.
