None of the books is very good but some are worse than others. Most of
them give you enough to get started but only experience will make you an
expert. O'Reilly & Associates publishes some very good books.
Here are some of the books on my shelves that I found good enough to keep:
"Sun Certified Solaris 9.0 Systetm and Network Administrator Exam
Guide", Paul A. Watters, PhD. 710 pages, (this one has at least a dozen
errors) The others probably have errors too but this one stimulated me
to start counting. . . .
Solaris Advanced System Administrator's Guide" Second Edition by Janice
Winsor 555 pages.
"Unix System Administrator's Companion" Michael R. Ault
"UNIX Shell Programming" revised edition, Stephen C. Kochan and Patrick
H. Wood
"Unix System Administration Handbook" by Evi Nemeth, Garth Snyder and
Scott Seebass
"Learning the VI editor"
"sed and awk"
"Learning the Korn Shell"
I have more but they are downstairs and I'm too lazy. . . .
There are probably hundreds more; some better and some worse. See
what, if anything, your local library has. Do that first; it may save
you a bundle of money!! You may find a book or two good enough that you
want a copy of your very own!
