As a way to try out my old usenet access, and get my more realistic name
back, I'd like to point out that Spansion has now filed for bankruptcy
protection. Took on too much debt. My friends over there are now even less
pleased than before.

I guess it's been long enough so I can say. Spansion fab,
915 Deguine, Sunnyvale, CA. Spansion is the name for the flash
memory spin off from AMD. In the AMD days it was known as the
Submicron
Development Center (SDC) established 1988 when AMD started to
seriously
get into the processor business. Currently all the processors are
made in
Dresden (AFAIK), and flash is produced in Austin and Japan. 20+ years
is a pretty respectable lifespan for this kind of facility.
