I can now confirm that the following configuration works:

MacBook Pro with OS X 10.5.6
VMware Fusion 2.0.2
two VM's running XP SP3
one is running Personal Alpha with OpenVMS V8.3 and AM V2.6
the other is running AM V2.6 data analyzer.

Both VM's have two network connections, all bridged.
