Sorry to hear about that. It is almost as bad for a guy as
 -SYSTEM-F-NOPENIS, no such device available :-) :-) :-)



Is the logical DECW$IGNORE_WORKSTATION  set to anything ? This causes a
system to start the decw software but not the X terminal part.

Also, remember that if you access the system via telnet, or decnet or
serial console or via lat, you don't get a DECW$DISPLAY created.

make sure SYSGEN> WINDOW_SYSTEM is set to 1.

Mak sure you have a graphic device:

$ graphics_device = f$device("*","workstation","decw_output")
