The market wants what trade rags tells them what they should want.

Trade rags publish whatever information vendor provide them in press
releases and white papers (as well as what gartner says).

If the owner of VMS had wanted to, they would have marketed it as a
viable modern solution with market leading clustering etc. It is all
water under the bridge now.

In the end, VMS will have had over 30 years of active development and
this isn't too shabby.

Only Unix and MVS will have surpassed this.
