I can't go into too much details as I'm not generally allowed to talk
too much about work systems, but basically the interface itself is
generally home grown.
I have data gathering services listening on ports on the VMS system
which accept requests over a private LAN from the local webservers and
returns the requested data over the LAN. The LAN is physically isolated
from the Internet by a firewall. There are also certain other security
protections (which I can't discuss).
The business rules and the code/logic to gather the data are encoded in
the VMS based data gathering services. I've had the general architecture
in place for several years now and, so far, it's worked very reliably.
BTW, I don't use Windows/IIS at all; the webservers are all Linux based.
Simon.
