   Anybody who had a (Gould) SEL 32 knew VAX was not impressive hardware.
   People bought VAXen mostly because VMS was so easy to use.  SEL 32
   had them beat on performance, but the OS was downright painfull.

   We didn't leave VAX until after Alpha came out precisely because
   we needed VMS on what ever hardware ran it.  Others left VAX earlier
   because they needed raw number crunching power no matter what OS.
