   A GUI window that provides access only to an application and not the
   underlying reflects the application's user interface design more that 
   the OS's, and can be similar on just about any OS.

   Just compare Java Swing apps using the Java interface on Solaris,
   Windows, Mac OS, and VMS to see the truth of this.
