OK Steven, I did some testing. When I log into a server with the Safari
and FTP set to launch iTerm into FTP mode, the server sees:
18-SEP-2009 10:00:50.37 User:anonymous logged in ident:VAXman@ from Host:{removed to hide from SPAMbots}
18-SEP-2009 10:01:12.75 User:anonymous ident:VAXman@ logged out
If I use the Finder to connect to the server, I get:
18-SEP-2009 10:02:22.20 User:anonymous logged in ident:cfnetwork at apple.com from Host:{removed to hide from SPAMbots}
18-SEP-2009 10:02:22.51 User:anonymous ident:cfnetwork at apple.com logged out
So, like I said, it's not Safari as it doesn't do, at least not directly,
FTP.
...and, just for shits and giggles, I setup the FTP handler in Safari to
be FireFox 3.5.2.
18-SEP-2009 10:09:40.03 User:anonymous logged in ident:mozilla at example.com from Host:{removed to hide from SPAMbots}
18-SEP-2009 10:10:22.76 User:anonymous ident:mozilla at example.com logged out
If you're interested in playing with this and changing your defaults set
in Safari, google for RCDefaultsApp, and download it. When you get it,
mount the .dmg image, and then click on the RCDefaultApp.prefPane which
will ask you to install the panel. Then, look in the system preferences
and you should see a new panel app under Other.
