I also used SOS early in my VMS career.

I took to it quite quickly, since the command set was basically the same
as the line-editing commands used by the various Microsoft BASICs I had
been using on microcomputers. Given that Bill Gates developed BASIC on a
PDP-10, I suspect that is not coincidence.

Unlike the earlier comment about easing CPU usage by going to EDT, we
were often tracked down and hollered at when we switched to EDT on H19s
at the university. Of course, this may also have been related to
increasing the baud rate to 9600 before firing up EDT...
