There are 2 types of VMS engineers in India. There are a few who have
made a career of VMS. And there are the commodity drones who come and go
as soon as they find a better job with better future elsewhere.

The later type would much rather work on some industry buzzword like
gSpot, gSoap, gThis or gThat because that puts something on their CV of
value. They don't enhance their CV if they say they worked on adding a
qualifier to the SET command.

The former types have to work on stuff like the VMS kernel,
IP-clustering etc. They are the ones who have been there for a long time
and have experience with VMS.

I have absolutely no idea whether HP dictates what gets done on VMS, or
whether VMS group still has contact with customers to find out what they
need.

It is entirely possible that the development of VMS is being dictated by
HP from its contacts with a couple of very large customers. If they say
they need gRinse, then HP might tell VMS engineering that gRinse is of
upmost priority.

In the Digital days, customers had a pretty good idea of the process of
choosing what features to add etc. With HP, this is an opaque cloud.
