LOL. The argument can be made that only the foolish directly post here,
since the risk of getting into trouble is far higher than anything else.
Several people e-mail me with things that they sometimes want known - but
who will not post here.

LOL. First, you unknowingly insult some very brilliant engineers that
pulled off Alpha and then IA64. These were no simple tasks. Nor did all
things begin and end with VAX. Second, divining things from the sources is
a tough one. Yes, you will no doubt find many of the names of important
engineers - but you will really need to understand the entire codebase to
know how they were important. Nor will some of the names you think you know
as important show up - because their contributions were not directly related
to actual code.

Only in regards that for one reason or another that they are willing and
able to spend time in such forums.

It is not "fair" to assume anything. For example, I haven't lived in New
England for something like *6-7* years. For my own reasons, I became a
telecommuter long before any changes took place. I see no reason to discuss
how we run the internals of the organization or HP, suffice it to say that
those in India end up working long evenings to be able to interact with HP
in the US. In terms of travel - even I have been to India - and found it
very interesting and the people very welcoming - like DEC in 1979.
