I think the single tool analogy isn't quite appropriate.
An OS is more like a toolbox containing various tools.
The current mainstream OS's have tools for just about everything,
including server tasks.
VMS toolbox appears to be rather empty, its contents
reduced to wrenches for pentagonal screw heads
or similarly useless tools,
but lacking simple screwdrivers or hammers.
So if you're looking for a versatile toolbox,
which one would you buy?
