[Info-vax] Attempt to shadow IDE disk hangs DS10L

Hello,
I first saw this on a customer site, and reproduced it on a test DS10L system.
OpenVMS Alpha 8.3, with UPDATE 13 (which includes SHADOWING 6) & PCSI patches installed. 1 GB
memory plus 18 GB IDE internal drive. OpenVMS was installed freshly from the CD.
The system boots fine unless shadowing is enabled. The parameters were set:
SHADOWING=2
SHADOW_SYS_DISK=1
SHADOW_SYS_UNIT=0
Attempting to boot gets as far as the OpenVMS copyright banner, and then hangs. No disk activity
(observed on LED) after that.
If I CRASH the system, I get a dump which shows unit DSA0 has been formed. The only process is
SWAPPER, and I did notice there was no free paged dynamic memory (no lock data was available, and no
page files were mapped, despite there being one on the disk). Multiplying PAGEDYN by a factor of 10
and an AUTOGEN made no difference.
The system is not clustered, and OPENVMS-ALPHA & VOLSHAD PAKs are loaded.
Has anyone seen anything like this, or can suggest a line of investigation ?
Regards
Tom Wade
