I doubt Hurd planned this affair in advance. He probably met her at a
trade show, got smitten, invited her to dinner, got a hotel room etc.

Sine she had been hired by HP, perhaps Hurd thought he could charge this
as a business expense.

Remember that in such circumstances, a man is not driven by the head on
his shoulders... Mistakes are made which end up costing him his job.

But for a CEO, "dying while having sex as a succesful CEO" is probably a
much better way to retire than "being asked to leave because you are now
seen as a bad CEO".
