   I assume that the disk model names are derived from the
size, so, if the size appears to be zero (or elsewise
impossible) because the disk is bad, then you might get the
name of the smallest disk in the name/size table.

   Offer me a nice SCSI adapter, and I might consider it.  Are
(good) ESDI disks any easier to find (or cheaper) than ST506
disks?
