Twice , I witnessed customers paying the full list price for the C
compiler. One was a bank who though the price was reasonable compared to
the equivalent on their IBM mainframe. The other was a small shop who
didn't have much levereage for deals (the later was in late 1980s).


A third one was a loss to Digital when their initial bid were all list
prices odd the Decdirect catalogue for a close to 1million deal. The
insult to the VPs was irreversible. And yeah, full pricing for compilers.
