Dear VMS Community,
I am enclosing a 2010 OpenVMS Boot Camp Update. The dates are Sept
12-17, in Nashua NH. As you can see it is too large for a newsletter
article. One of the main reasons for sending this is that I am
concerned that you may forget to register and there are no seats left.
Not that this is really a major concern because we would always find
room for a VMS person.
This year not only do we have excellent representation from VMS
Engineering, we will also have excellent sessions from topic experts
from the VMS Ambassadors and VMS Champions (Partners, Customers and
Consultants). This will be the largest most informative VMS event for
the year.We now have 12 different countries attending, and from those
countries there are 50 different companies. The countries are listed
at the end of this document. Sweden has broken all previous records of
attendees from that country, with 25 attendees.
Some questions for you
Are you registered, do you have your hotel, are you well rested (ok
that last one was a mother hen question). Speakers as a reminder you
have to register and make your hotel reservations as well. Everyone
should plan on bringing their laptops (with updated virus protection)
and wireless is better than wired. There will be a few wired
connections. REMINDER, you need to bring your own power cords or
adapters. We do not have access to European laptop power cords.
Remember bring plenty of business cards. You will also have to sign a
non-disclosure form. This allows for freeness of expression on both
sides with no fear of seeing it in the press.
Important - if you have not paid or given a credit card you are NOT
registered.
In the last week we have really seen registration speed up. We are now
down to 75 free slots. So I encourage you to register as soon as
possible to avoid disappoint. Please remember you will be asked to
sign a Non Disclosure form. If you have any problems with registration
please just send email

What you can expect? If you have attended previously, you know what to
expect, as you know you will have a extremely busy week, surrounded by
like minded VMS Technologists. The week will be full of technical
sessions around OpenVMS and the associated technologies. For example,
this means, in-depth sessions on OpenVMS, including recent changes,
futures and directions. Additionally there will be sessions on HP
Server Hardware, Storage, Oracle, Oracle Rdb, and Open Source. One key
topic area is migrating from previous hardware platforms to Integrity.
We also have topics around updating your VAX with flash.

TUESDAY EVENING - Partner roundtable, this is one of the highlights of
the week, you can find new partners you never knew. We will have a
variety of partners from both inside and outside of the US. These
partners are all related to VMS, there will be software partners,
application and middleware partners and even hardware partners. (be

there are many choices both inside and outside the hotel.

· There may also be another dinner at the hotel (details forth coming)
· BOFs, Birds of a Feather discussion groups where people interested
in the same topic can get together. These are planned on site and
anyone can make a BOF or attend one. There will be sign-up sheets at
the registration desk.
· Your free evening
THURSDAY EVENING - This is different this year. Normally, we had done
awards this evening. However, this year is a treat. We are having a
VMS/VAX/ALPHA/TRU64 REUNION PARTY AT THE POOL. So you will be able to
meet not only current engineering but engineers going back to the very
beginning of DEC. As part of this event there will be a silent auction
in memory of Chip Webb our dear friend who passed away last week. All
proceeds will go to a worldwide university/college scholarship, you
will be able to bid on items like an autographed copy of the VMS
Internals book, a small white sweater with the DEC clock tower on it.
Two of the big items, would be one Denim Ambassador jacket and one
leather Ambassador jacket (only 2), and going way back a set of
hurricane glasses from DECUS New Orleans. If you would like to
contribute an item or several, that would be wonderful. If you are not
attending the Boot Camp there is a $25 for this event. To register
just visit; https://connect-community.site-ym.com/store/view_product.asp?id=543636
Some additional notes
On Thursday and all day Friday there will be a Oracle Forum, as a boot
camp attendee you are welcome to attend.
If your company has an opening for engineers, system managers, DBA and
you feel comfortable please bring a copy of the requisition. We will
post it on the message board.
Based on the response to the survey Bill sent out, we did not receive
enough feedback to justify having certification testing on site.
Please keep in mind no answer is an answer.
