You could go all out and run a Nessus (or similar) vuln. scanner with
safe mode turned off, check with your ISP and/or local lawyer about
the legality of this. If there's an actual person sitting behind the
scanner, he'll prob drop you off the list pretty quickly.

If however the "attack" source is some poor schmuck whose machine has
been taken over by a botnet, I doubt the operators care much about a
single node being "hit back".

Again, don't do anything illegal.....
