I bet you wrote your own non standard driver to interface with the
remote port(s), and you make ample use of $CMCRNL  (change mode to
carnal :-)

And I suspect you will be bragging about your driver having to handle
such a big buffer that it had to push the data out in about 10
consecutive IOs after which your system promptly calls SYS$HIBER ... :-)
