I wouldn't care much whether an OS is proprietary or open source,
as long as it is affordable and does the job.
The annoying thing with M$, however, is that they flood
the net (and IT in general) with proprietary,
often undocumented formats, which forces people
to buy Windoze PCs. And they do so with full intention.
That's a drug dealer's attitude, IMHO.
I'm not aware of other companies doing that to a similar extent.
Take Adobe as a counter example, they don't
force you to buy their products just to view
PS or PDF. Both formats are well documented
and thus several readers exist, on a lot of platforms.
