Linker. On Itanium the linker generates some code and this code
generation
has been improved with the 8.3-1H1 linker  (you can also use the
8.3-1H1 linker
on 8.3).


Actually, the code generated by the linker is unchanged.  What has changed 
is that the linker is more efficient on re-using code it has already 
generated.  It packs it into the images better.  So you will get SMALLER 
.EXE files but the performance will be exactly the same (well, faster image 
activation due to fewer disk I/Os and perhaps better fit inside the 
instruction cache).
